Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy

CESUD (Community Empowerment for Sustainable Development) is dedicated to ensuring a safe, nurturing, and protective environment for all children, orphans, and vulnerable individuals who participate in or benefit from our programs. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harassment.

1. Core Principles of Protection

    Best Interests of the Child: Every action and decision affecting children under our care is guided by what is best for the child.
  • ✔
    Nondiscrimination: All children have equal rights to protection, regardless of gender, race, tribe, physical ability, or socio-economic background.
  • ✔
    Informed Consent: Active, informed consent is obtained from parents or legal guardians before children are featured in media or participate in school field trips.

2. Staff and Volunteer Recruitment Vetting

    Mandatory Certificate of Good Conduct for all full-time staff and long-term field officers prior to placement.
  • ✔
    Double reference check protocol for all volunteers and interns deployed in school-based green clubs and nutrition programs.
  • ✔
    Bi-annual training on child rights and child protection laws for all field supervisors and community facilitators.

3. Safe Coding of Conduct in the Field

  • ✔
    No staff member or volunteer is permitted to be alone with a child in a closed space or outside designated program hours.
  • ✔
    No physical discipline or abusive language is tolerated under any circumstances.
  • ✔
    Strict guidelines on digital interactions: Staff are prohibited from adding child beneficiaries on personal social media channels.

4. Incident Reporting & Investigation Workflow

    Confidential reporting channel managed directly by the Project Officer for OVC & Social Advocacy (Social Worker).
  • ✔
    Immediate referral of suspected abuse cases to local child welfare authorities in Kakamega County within 24 hours.
  • ✔
    Strict confidentiality protocols to protect the identity of the victim and whistleblower during inquiry processes.
