Environmental & Climate Stewardship Policy
As an environmental and climate resilience NGO in Western Kenya, CESUD is committed to running low-carbon, zero-waste projects. We ensure that our training programs, office operations, and community models serve as active drivers of ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation.
1. Agroecological Transition Commitments
- ✔Zero Chemical Promotion: CESUD projects do not distribute, subsidize, or recommend synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
- ✔Focus on Bio-inputs: All agricultural training modules focus on organic compost, liquid manure, and biological pest control (e.g., push-pull, neem extracts).
- ✔Residue Retention: Promoting 100% soil organic residue retention and cover crops to maximize carbon sequestration and soil moisture conservation.
2. Integrated 'Zero-Waste' Systems
- ✔Every partner school green club must implement organic waste composting and plastic separation bins.
- ✔Offices and field training sites prioritize local, reusable, or biodegradable materials, avoiding single-use plastics.
- ✔Active promotion of waste-to-wealth programs (e.g., charcoal briquette making from agricultural waste to reduce wood fuel consumption).
3. Conservation of Local Biodiversity
- ✔Promoting native and multi-purpose tree species (agroforestry) in school gardens and household farms for soil fixing, windbreaks, and fruit supply.
- ✔Advocating for the protection of riparian reserves and local watersheds (like the Nzoia and Yala river systems) from run-off erosion.
- ✔Eliminating the introduction of invasive or non-ecological species in project areas.
